Dear Sundance families,

As we move deeper into the season, we’re reminded of the importance of getting outdoors, spending time together, and learning from the land around us. Our students benefit so much from fresh air, movement, and the chance to explore the natural world whether it’s noticing seasonal changes, engaging in outdoor learning activities, or simply enjoying time with friends.

Thank you for supporting this by ensuring your child comes to school dressed warmly and in layers. This helps them stay comfortable and ready to learn during our outdoor times throughout the day.

When students see that we are all working together, caring for each other, spending time together, and appreciating the land, they feel supported, grounded, and ready to learn.

Socks, Hats and Mitts Drive: NSTEP Club and Sundance School are supporting a 'Socks, Hats and Mitts Drive', from December 2 - 12, 2025.

There is a collection box in the school foyer for donations of new socks, hats and mittens to help Calgary kids in need.

Thank you for supporting such a worthy cause.

Countdown to Kindergarten: Beginning Jan. 12, 2026, registration opens for kindergarten, as well as for new Grade 1–12 students, for the 2026–2027 school year. Read more here:

Sing-A-Long at Sundance: Parents/guardians are invited to join Sundance students and staff for a holiday sing-a-long.

When: Wednesday, December 17 and Thursday, December 18, 2025

Time: 10:30-11:30am

Students will lead the school with instruments or actions to music. This is not a performance but allows students to participate fully in the songs.

All guests are encouraged to sing and follow along. Song lyrics will be projected on a big screen. There will be a mix of English and French songs and include holiday favourites and non-holiday/ winter related songs.

On December 17, the leaders will be in Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 6.

On December 18, the leaders will be in Grade 1, Grade 4, Grade 5, and Choir Club (Gr 3, 4, 5, 6).

Seating will be somewhat limited as the entire student population will be present on both days, with extra standing space available along the sides of the gym for those who are able.

We look forward to you joining us.

Festive Spirit Days, December 15 - 19, 2025: Students are invited to participate in our optional festive Spirit Days on the last week of school before the winter break.

From Sundance School Council:

On Friday, December 19, 2025, Sundance will host their annual Holiday Pyjama Breakfast with students enjoying muffins and oranges in the gym together.

We are kindly asking for donations of 24 mini muffins for each class to enjoy. If you are able to help with this, please use the sign up. Muffins must be nut-free and not cupcakes. Please send them to school with your child that morning in a labeled container. There will also be a spot to sign up for some allergy aware muffins that will be given to those with that specific allergy.

Note: the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten classes will enjoy their muffins on Thursday, December 18.

One volunteer for each class is required to assist in setting up, distributing the muffins and oranges, and helping with clean up. We ask that you come in at 8:00am for approximately 2 hours. A valid police check and annual volunteer paperwork is required to volunteer. Please email volunteer.sundance@gmail.com to enquire about your volunteer status.

Thank you so much for making this event possible!
