Dear Sundance Families,
As we continue to support our students’ growth and well-being, we want to highlight the importance of strong evening routines at home. Consistent bedtimes help ensure students come to school well-rested, ready to learn, and able to fully engage in their day.
Asking your child about the highlights of their school day, what made them smile, what they learned, or who they connected with, helps strengthen their confidence, communication skills, and sense of belonging.
Your interest and engagement in your child’s learning makes a meaningful difference. These simple moments of connection at home support both academic success and positive relationships at school.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s learning and well-being.
Drinks in class: We have recently noticed an increase in students arriving at school with beverages such as Slurpee's, fountain drinks, and coffee-based drinks. While we understand these may be occasional treats, they can be disruptive and messy in the classroom.
We kindly ask that students bring only water to school, or a beverage in a reusable water bottle. Water helps students stay hydrated, focused, and ready to learn throughout the day.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing this expectation with your child and helping us maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
Cell phone/ Smartwatch use: As per the government Ministerial order, students may not access personal devices inside the school during the school day, which includes non-instructional times such as lunch, recess, or break times. Devices should be powered off/ in silent mode and stored while on school grounds.
Outside of the building, on school grounds, devices should also be “away for the day” before and after school. Students may use them on the bus for their own personal use, in an appropriate manner, and with the permission of their adults.
Earth Week Challenge: Small Actions, Big Impact: Earth Week is coming to Sundance!
From Monday, April 27 to Friday, May 1, students are invited to join in a week of simple, fun challenges that show how we can all help our planet.
- Monday: Lights Off - be an energy saver
- Tuesday: Litter-Less Lunch - reduce waste
- Wednesday: Clean-Up Crew - help tidy our outdoor spaces
- Thursday: Feel-Good Facts - notice the positive changes happening in our world
- Friday: Plant It! - grow something great
Let's work together to make a difference - one small action at a time.
2026-27 Class Placements: As we begin planning for the next school year, our staff will work collaboratively to create balanced and supportive class groupings for students in Grades 1–6. Over the coming months, teacher teams will gather and review student information to support this process.
Class placement is thoughtful and intentional. Classroom teachers possess a wealth of professional knowledge and experience, which they use to make informed decisions that best meet the needs of students at our school.
As part of this process, students will have an opportunity to share the names of their peers with whom they feel they have positive learning connections. We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about making thoughtful choices. While student voice is valued, it is one of many factors, and specific placements or groupings cannot be guaranteed.
We kindly ask that families do not request specific teachers. Our team is committed to making placement decisions that support both individual student success and the overall balance of each classroom.
If you have specific concerns, questions, or circumstances that may significantly impact your child’s learning, we encourage you to connect with your child’s teacher no later than May 1, 2026.
Learning to adapt to new environments, peers, and teachers is an important part of student growth. We are confident that this careful and collaborative process will support a successful year ahead for all students.
Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.
