Dear Families,
March is Mois de la Francophonie, a time to celebrate the French language and the rich cultures of Francophone communities around the world. In a French Immersion school, this month is especially meaningful as it highlights the importance of learning, speaking, and experiencing French both inside and outside the classroom.
Francophonie Month recognizes the presence and diversity of Francophone and Francophile communities, promotes the French language in Alberta, and celebrates the many organizations and initiatives that support French culture in our province.
Since the Government of Alberta officially proclaimed March as Alberta Francophonie Month in 2018, it has been an opportunity for communities to come together and celebrate the many ways French language and culture enrich our lives.
We look forward to celebrating together and continuing to foster a strong appreciation for the French language and culture within our school community.
Semaine de la Francophonie: It's Carnaval time and Semaine de la Francophonie at Sundance again!
From Monday, March 16 to Thursday, March 19, students and staff will be participating in a variety of fun activities to celebrate French cultural events.
Some of the highlights are:
• Monday - Wear something French/vêtements qui représente la francophonie
• Tuesday- Wear green or a tuque
• Wednesday- Plaid Shirt Day/chemise carottée
• Thursday- Special treat from School Council: Maple cookies
• The entertaining Folkofolie show on Tuesday, March 17, 2026
• Carnaval Bingo
• Announcements (all week)
• A scavenger hunt of francophone flags
Bonhomme Carnaval will also pay a visit to staff and students during the week.
Let’s all bring in 'la joie de vivre', the love for French as well as the Carnaval spirit so we can make it at Sundance ... tout un festival !
Student-Led Parent Teacher Conferences: Student-led conferences take place in March, and our students will showcase their learning with parents during a 30-minute conference in the classrooms. Most conferences take place on Thursday, March 19 in the evening, and Friday, March 20, 2026 in the morning, and bookings can only be made via MyCBE accounts. Support for how to book a conference can be found here. Bookings open at 9:00am on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 and close at 11:30pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Please note that Mme Soada and Mme Sorraya have different schedules, so please check the date and time details closely when booking. For all families, please ensure that the correct teacher(s) are selected.
Children must go home after dismissal and before their conference time as we have no supervision available while teachers take a quick break and prepare their rooms.
Please check Lost & Found while at the school since unclaimed items will be donated to charity immediately after spring break.
